Happy New Year

A wonderful old European tradition ... see the New Year in with a Strauss concert.

Attila GLatz' Salute to Vienna, based on the Vienna Philharmonic's 70-year-old traditional "Neujahrskonzert," or New Year's Concert, this cross-continental event will occur in San Diego at Copley Symphony Hall on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.

I studied German language in Vienna for two weeks about 8 years ago and just loved it, especially Castle Belvedere ("beautiful view") built by little remembered Eugene de Savoy but more imposing even than the Hapsburgs'' palaces. Prince Eugene, spurned by the French, went asa mercenary to fight for the Austrians and was gloriously victorious. See wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Eugene_de_Savoy
