Happy New Year

A wonderful old European tradition ... see the New Year in with a Strauss concert.

Attila GLatz' Salute to Vienna, based on the Vienna Philharmonic's 70-year-old traditional "Neujahrskonzert," or New Year's Concert, this cross-continental event will occur in San Diego at Copley Symphony Hall on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.

I studied German language in Vienna for two weeks about 8 years ago and just loved it, especially Castle Belvedere ("beautiful view") built by little remembered Eugene de Savoy but more imposing even than the Hapsburgs'' palaces. Prince Eugene, spurned by the French, went asa mercenary to fight for the Austrians and was gloriously victorious. See wiki

Virgin Boot Polishing Takes Place at Dallas Airport

I had so much time to pass in the Dallas airport last week, I kept hearing the valet cry, "Shine 'em up! Shine 'em up!"

I thought, "Well, that's something I've never done before. Let's see what he can do with these old boots."

It was an awesome experience and they came out pretty good for 10 years old.

Last Review of Pluto in Sagittarius

work in progress ...

take this and apply it to Capricorn to anticipate the magnitude of change in matters ruled by Capricorn ...

Pluto, the planet of transformation, has been moving slowly through the sign of Sagittarius since January 17, 1995. It will leave Sagittarius for good on November 27, 2008. This article updates my predictions from 1995 and allows you to see the magnitude of change that will becoming in Capricorniian areas for the next sixteen year.

I predicted:
Mental health is a major issue on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis, as it is with the other mutable signs, Virgo and Pisces. As contrasted with depression and psychosis which are "water" conditions, the sorts of problems that arise on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis are specifically conditions that result from trying to manage an unmanageable environment with the mind. Autism and schizophrenia are dramatic examples. Learning disabilities and hyperactivity are less dramatic examples.

The nature of the problem could be described as an inability to regulate the amount of information which arrives at the brain for processing. In the case of autism, the mechanism seems to shut down. In learning abilities, frustration results along with confusion.

In schizophrenia, the child may have been confronted with a split in the outer world, the home environment.

A good breeding ground for the kind of mental illness found on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis would be parents of different ethnic, cultural, income, educational or religious backgrounds and the lack of a good mediation, such as the presence of an understanding grandparent. Colloquially we like to say such things "make us crazy" and indeed, such things do.

Often differences become exaggerated as the honeymoon stage of marriage draws to an end and the real work of marriage and child rearing begins.

"My mother says I will go to hell if I don't go to church every Sunday and my father says only idiots believe s--- like that." These kinds of things "drive us crazy" as a kid.

Or, after the divorce ;-), Daddy says his new boyfriend is a worthwhile and caring individual. "Mom says the Devil has gotten hold of Dad and not to go near that evil man living with him."

You can easily understand that in order to survive, the child may need to become "two different people". But there are many reasons why people can become split and not always to such a harmful degree as schizophrenia.

We can put this humorously: everyone knows that Geminis are really two different people and that Sagittarians are only around half the time!

What happened:
Mental health issues were highlighted in the trial of Andrea Yates who drowned her four chldren iin the bathtub in 2001. Post partum depression is supposedly difficult to prove ... as if anyone needed to prove she is insane. The behavior of Tommy Ray Brent Marsh with his Tri-State Crematory where hundreds of rotting bodies were found by police investigators on a tip in 2002 will likely open up some areas of speculation regarding mental health as well.

Mental health issues were also in the news when the Supreme Court recently ruled that people with very low IQs could not be given the death sentence because they were not capable of assisting in their own defense and could not grasp abstract concepts such as Miranda rights and death.

The incidence of autism has increased 263% in the State of California over the past 11 years and everyone wants to know why.

Other things ruled by these two signs are short and long trips, other cultures, language and language acquisition, the school years, communication, meditation, education, beliefs (about God), belief systems (such as religions or physics), breathing, asthma, "the way your mind works", large animals, farm animals, wild animals, zoos, evolution, ethics, philosophy, law and mythology (someone else's religion).

I gave a talk at San Diego's Better Worlde Galeria in Mission Hills, California when Pluto first went in to the sign of Sagittarius in early 1995. Although I seem to have temporarily lost the paper, these are some of my conclusions as to what issues would be highlighted during this time period.

I predicted:
NATURAL HEALING I'll develop these ideas further, as time permits, but the Benedictine monks began to flourish when Pluto was formerly in Sagittarius and at other times alternative healing became pronounced under this transit. Not only did the monks work side by side with St. Bernard dogs (interspecies cooperation), they used herbs and other remedies for healing. Jesus Christ, the healer (and teacher) was born under this transit.

I predicted:

IMMIGRATION The changes here have just begun, although there has been continuing pressure in this area of our society for many years

I predicted:
SLAVERY The period in history where slave trade flourished was when Pluto was in Sagittarius. I consider slavery a 9th house issue also because its success depended on the cooperation of three races: Arabs, Whites and Blacks. This is perhaps the only time in the world when these three groups cooperated on anything. If you are not aware of this, blacks living along the shores of Africa, betrayed their brethren from central Africa into the hands of Arab traders. No white person or Arab could possibly have penetrated the African landscape at that time due to disease, wild animals and other brutal conditions of nature.

What happened:
It was front page news in 1999 that Thomas Jefferson had a black mistress for many years.

At the death of Strom Thurmond in 2003, speculation continues as to his relationship with a black woman and a child of that relationship, purported to be a 70 year old widow now living in California who will never comment on these speculations.

Just as Pluto completed its overhaul of Sagittarius in November 2008, an African-American was elected 44th president of the United States, Barrack Hussein Obama. How's that for transformation?

The connection between immigration annd slavery is made cogently by MA Hadley Ajana in Voices on the Run: What the Slave Narratives Can Tell Us about The Immigration Debate,.

I predicted:
CROSS CULTURAL ISSUES Cross cultural issues have been exacerbated by racial and ethnic profiling that followed 9-11, as well as by mutual discrimination between Muslims, Jews and Christians.

What happened:
SARS and AIDS continue to unite the world in the worst way possible.

The fall 2008 collapse of the world economy [based on poor ethics among other things] has us truly interelated in complex ways, Chimerica being a good example. Hmmm, the invisible ties that bind.

I predicted:
I have expected public opinion to move from Israel during this time period.

I predicted:
LANGUAGE I expect a politically INcorrect backlash. Our language has become so full of euphemism and so watered down by circumlocution, that a reaction is bound to occur during this transit. There will also be heated debate as to what our national language is.

What happened:
A document about Spelling Bees was a big hit in the summer of 2003, for good reason. It was an utterly charming movie.

I predicted:
EDUCATION This will be the most besieged and ultimately transformed profession in the world for another ten years.

  • violence in the classroom

  • violence on campus

  • tenure

  • status - traditionally this profession has been high in influence and low in status

  • changing expectations for the role of teacher

  • computer and home schooling

  • ethics in the classroom

What happened:
April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold arrived at Columbine High Schoolfor a assacre.

The week of Valentine's Day 2003 there was an article of national interest about a teacher in the Midwest who resigned when the principal refused to back her up after she caught children in her class cheating.

During summer 2003 we heard in the news about the college professor with the criminal record (he killed someone in cold blood in his early teens) - in the process, we all learned that colleges are notoriously bad at checking back references.

April 16, 2007, Seung Hui- Cho killed 32 people and wounded many others before turning the gun on himself. According to wiki, "The massacre remains the deadliest shooting incident by a single gunman in United States history, on or off a school campus."

All would agree there has been a proliferation of online learning.

I predicted:
ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION Overcrowding and her minions ...

  • asthma

  • irritability

  • allergies

  • phobias

  • nervousness

  • "nerves"

  • "space"

  • pollution

What happened:
There is a rise in asthma in children -- it is environmental, not physiological ;-) but that's for us to know and them to find out.

By 2008 Global Warming is finallly taken seriously.

On November 20, 2008, 7 days before leaving Pluto leaves Sagittarius, Rep. Henry A, Waxman of California, an advocate of stiff measures against global warming, replaced Michigan Rep. John D, Dingell as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

AIR TRAVEL Well, the impact is already staggering. Soon it will take longer to get across town to the airport and wait in line than it will take to complete a transatlantic flight.

An interesting case in the late 90s involved a woman who was denied the right to take her asthma inhaler onboard at the gate after having been guaranteed the right over the phone when booking the flight. She died shortly after landing at her destination. This is the first time an airline has been held responsible for the baggage matters.

Southwest Airlines came under a public relations storm for their policy on obesity .

According to the BBC, in March 2004 "a two-year-old boy was escorted off a British Airways plane along with his grandparents after he had a tantrum just before take-off.

T"he family of Marcello Ferrand, from Kensal Rise, north-west London say he panicked after the aircraft crew tried to fit him with a seatbelt. blah blah blah"

We are seeing the near demise of some airlines and the big-3 car companinees while prices plummet on airfare and cruises.

IMMIGRATION AND REDISTRIBUTION OF POPULATION The migration patterns of groups throughout history has had major impact on culture, language, religion, resources and power. Today the computer is providing an environment where more and more people can live wherever they want and "work from home".

When census reports were released in 2002 showing that for the first time more people left California than moved to it ... we might consider that the virtual end of the westward migration and displacement of peoples which began with the Mongols in the early 1200s had finally come to a close.

As Pluto leaves Sagittariius, in 2007, a very sympathetic movie was made about the life of Genghis Khan and his Mongol hordes, called Mongol by Khabarovskia Sergei Bodrov following the book by publishedin 2005, Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World by Jack Weatherford. In 2008 the movie Genghis Khan was released by director Henry Levin.

GENOCIDE AND RACIAL PURGING/INTERNATIONAL LAW The third trial for genocide and war crimes in the history of the world is underway at the Hague, the trial of Slobodan Milosevic.

Here are some good websites to refresh on the history of the events leading up to the trial.
Genocide (ruled by Sagittarius) is defined by the tribunal as "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group".

January 15, 1999 is the date for the massacre at the Village of Racak
Saturn was at 27 Aries
Pluto was at 9 Sag

Why is there so much activity at 25-27 Aries/Libra ?? ... stay tuned for an attempt to answer this in the article on Princess Margaret, The Royals

The little girl in the red coat - an example of meaningful coincidence or synchronicity

noise - boomboxes, curfews, regulation

  • as Pluto reaches the halfway point through Sagittarius, the cell phone problem on public transportation on the east coast and in public places everywhere is becoming a crisis

  • busy-ness - too many choices with lack of ability to prioritize, lack of morals, values

  • SPAM

THE CELL QUESTION I love this issue because it combines so many Gemini/Sagittarian things. Driving with the cell phone is dangerous because, as any good astrologer knows, driving is a Sag. activity and talking on the phone is a Gemini activity. They use exactly opposite sides of the brain and can't be done at the same time without a great deal of brain development, which doesn't seem to be the case with many of the people I see engaged in this activity.

It is an established fact that driving while using a cell phone is almost as dangerous (statistically) as driving under the influence. Iit is noww (208) out of law to drive without a handsfree in many states and etiquette films are flashed at mmmovie theaters to curb the inmates.

The use of cell phones has also brought forward new questions of etiquette, a mutable sign issue.

Geminis know all the rules and are very fussy about them but pretend they aren't
    Virgos are the Miss Manners

  • Sagittarians really were raised in the barnyard and if you don't like it, that's your problem, it doesn't bother them!

  • Pisces -- huh? they are delicate and exquisite by nature and often quite phobic about manners

One reason that manners are changing so much right now, particularly in the work place, is because the generation now funneling into the workplace is the Pluto in Virgo generation. They will bring sweeping and transformative change to the way we think about work and how we do the work.

Geminis don't like to be bored for a minute or alone with their own thoughts, which drive them crazy, basically. So, who's got the cell growing out of their ear? Gemini. And who wouldn't be caught dead with one? Sag.

A Sagittarian I know considers them slave bracelets. It isn't all that far from micro chips, she feels.

I leave you with this thought: Gentlemen, how would you like your wife to slip a microchip in you when you're not looking?

John Forbes Nash, Jr. won the Nobel Prize in Economics

  • he is equally well know as of late for the mental illness he experienced after his Saturn Return, at 31

  • the movie version of the book about John Nash, A Beautiful Mind, hits the public just as Pluto transits Nash's own natal Saturn (see stills from the movie)

  • mental health issues are also at the core of the Yates trial and certainly at the core of the Marsh indictment

"Now I must arrive at the time of my change from scientific rationality of thinking into the delusional thinking characteristic of persons who are psychiatrically diagnosed as "schizophrenic" or "paranoid schizophrenic". But I will not really attempt to describe this long period of time but rather avoid embarrassment by simply omitting to give the details of truly personal type. " [from Nash's Nobel acceptance speech]

John Nash was born June 13, 1928. He was given the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1994. He has two planets in Gemini and one in Sagittarius but they are very important planets. His Sun is in Gemini conjunct Venus. These planets are opposed by his Saturn in Sagittarius. Moreover, the Moon Nodes are in Gemini/Sag.

In his own words at his Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, Nash states, "The mental disturbances originated in the early months of 1959 at a time when Alicia happened to be pregnant." The dead giveaway here is the word "happened". Learn to not skip over things like this. We'll return to this later in the interpretation.

Nash says further in his Nobel Prize acceptance speech: "So at the present time I seem to be thinking rationally again in the style that is characteristic of scientists. However this is not entirely a matter of joy as if someone returned from physical disability to good physical health. One aspect of this is that rationality of thought imposes a limit on a person's concept of his relation to the cosmos. For example, a non-Zoroastrian could think of Zarathustra as simply a madman who led millions of naive followers to adopt a cult of ritual fire worship. But without his "madness" Zarathustra would necessarily have been only another of the millions or billions of human individuals who have lived and then been forgotten." [Emphasis mine.]

Read the speech for yourself.

He concludes:

"Statistically, it would seem improbable that any mathematician or scientist, at the age of 66, would be able through continued research efforts, to add much to his or her previous achievements. However I am still making the effort and it is conceivable that with the gap period of about 25 years of partially deluded thinking providing a sort of vacation my situation may be atypical. Thus I have hopes of being able to achieve something of value through my current studies or with any new ideas that come in the future."

Read the complete speech @ Nobel Acceptance Speech for 1994 in Economics (Official Site)

It is easy enough to jest at this movie, as the BBC does when it comments that math can be fun.
Perhaps when Nash's wife got pregnant, this was confusing to him.

This seems to be a critical degree. It features prominently in the charts of Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln. Click here.

Nash has many of the characteristics of genius (click here), including a lack of social skill which is remarked on by everyone. He seems to have been a very strange character.

TERRORISM Travel and terrorism go hand in hand as Pluto goes through Sagittarius, because terrorism is multi-national. Terrorism is actually the "keynote" of Pluto in Sagittarius.

The Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham was used as a meeting-place for civil rights leaders such as MarTin Luther King,. core usd it as headquarters to register African-American votters. On Sunday, 15th September, 1963 it was bombed. Four little African-American girls were killed. It seemed the perpetrator would escape justice until the case was reopened in 1995.

The Westboro Baptist Church in was bombed August 10, 1995 in retalilation for gay rights.

The Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic terrorist attack On April 19, 1995 the Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic terrorist attack aimed at the US government when the target being the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. According to wiki, the attack claimed 168 lives and left over 800 people injured. It was the first major terrorist attack and until the 9/11, it was the deadliest act of terrorism on U.S. soil.

This mix of religion and bombings reached an apex September 11, 2001 with Al-Qaeda's attack on New York's Twin Towers. Almost 3,000 people died.

RENEWED INTEREST IN ROYALS With the baby boomers reaching their mid50s, "history" is beginning to fall into place regarding the events that preceded World War II. Most of this generation were born during the war years in the early 1940s.

Vanity Fair magazine recently had a 50 page spread on "the Modern Royals". It tracked the royal houses of the European countries and Russia, many of whom had been deposed in the first half of the century, to find what they are about today and to suggest that perhaps there is/was a use for royalty after all. (The article was written by Prince Michael of Greece.) Sagittarius is the royal sign.

Writing in 2008, certainly England has produced Prince Charming incarnate in William.

ANIMAL RIGHTS Sagittarius rules bigger animals and activities such as dog breeding, animal husbandry, animal control, education about pet care and apparently, reverse snobbery (are you fit to own a pet?)

An interesting book to read about this topic is "A Crowded Ark"

Also see page on large animals in the news

OPERA It's multi-cultural. For over a century people from all over the world have cooperated with one another to produce Grand Opera. We have been seeing a global upsurge in opera attendance.

By the way, I did a survey not too long ago on composer and most of them have Gemini prominently in their charts.

ALPHA PERSON The mutable person is the Alpha Person in the 21st Century. The mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. Mutable signs will thrive because they

  • adapt easily - nomads, traders \

Online Dating Coach

This is a guest article by Susan Dunn the Dating Coach.

Contact Susan Dunn the Dating Coach

How do you find the right man or woman for you?

My dating coaching is intensely PRACTICAL. There are things that work and things that don't.

Here are just a few that apply to anyone who truly wants to find their partner:

1. You have to have a strategy, a plan. I work with you individually on this. You may live on a farm in Idaho, or you may live in a penthouse in New York, or on Perdido Bay in Alabama. But wherever you live there are places to meet members of the opposite sex, and there is also the Internet.

2. You must get active.

3. You must put consistent effort into it. No matter where you live, no one is going to come and knock on your door and say, “Here I am.”

4. You must persevere. Know that word? It means you don’t give up. It’s already taken too long, but once you find that person, you will forget all about how long it took; except that you’ll value them even more. Don’t go out once or twice, or join one Internet site for 6 months and then give up. I won’t let you!

5. Get yourself in shape! (Let me work with you on this.) If you need a new haircut, a new wardrobe, to lose a few pounds, to clean out your car, or spruce up your house/apartment, do it!

6. Same with attitude. Ask yourself, “Would you date you if you were someone else??”

7. Cut people some slack. In most cases an email or two or a date or two is not enough to really get to know someone. The whole thing is to get to know the other person - over time and in different circumstances. Anyone who tells you they don’t get nervous is lying. Remember - I’ve coached and listened to hundreds of people.

8. AND learn who to eliminate quickly. Time is of the essence! Also your safety and your heart. I will teach you how to recognize these. When it happens, move on. And don’t dwell if someone you liked doesn’t return the favor. Move on!!

9. Remember your manners. If you need to brush up on your social graces and etiquette, we will. They work. Call to confirm dates. Show up on time. Apologize if you must cancel. Be polite. Use nice language. You only get one chance to make a first impression.

10. Be fun, but watch the humor. Humor is very tricky. Get to know the person a little bit first or sure enough you’ll tell a joke about a dumb Black Lab, and they’ll own and love one (for instance).

11. Keep the conversation give-and-take. Learn how to "make" good conversation If you're a woman, re-read my list of things men don't like to talk about. If you're a guy, remember women like to talk! Don't talk about yourself the whole time. (Some people tend to do this when they get nervous.) Ask the other person questions. Avoid past relationships, war stories, etc. Listen actively. Show an interest in their lives and what they’re talking about.

12. Exes are “ex” or you’re not ready to be dating.

Saturn Return Blues

Dear Nancy,

I know it's the holiday season, but I was wondering if I could expect my Saturn Return information, and if you have everything you need. There is still plenty of time, but I want to be prepared for it. I wanted to say as well that I feel like life is on the right track now, but it's because 2006 was the worst year ever in my life, it was a traumatic and extremely painful experience for me. It propelled me into the right path now, so perhaps it was a blessing in disguise. Although, I don't think I can ever forget the pain or control the flashbacks. I really look forward to hearing from you. I believe in the power of the universe, of the planets and the aspects.

Are you between 28 and 30 and having experiences like this? Write for your free Saturn Return mini reading today

Bernard Madoff's Astrology Chart

We don't have Bernard Madoff's exact time of birth but his three placements in Taurus -- Sun, Moon and South Node - indicate venality and isolation from others making his position possible, standing outside the community and bilking it.

Some really awful villains have been Tauru, including Adolf Hitler.

Someone with Mars in Gemini could lead a double life and be a con man.

Saturn in Aries indicates over compensation for percieved lack of manliness and/or competiveness and testosterone run amock.

'Tis the Season

Having Eyes to See

We begin our spiritual development by taking ourselves apart and putting ourselves back together again the right way. We review many observations and conclusions made in childhood and revise our conclusions based on new evidence.

In a small town in the Midwest, near the turn of the century, a boy named Robert grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. He wore hand-me-down. His parents couldn’t afford to get him a haircut. The other kids teased him. People whispered that his father was irresponsible and had too many kids.

Robert wore the shame of his father’s poverty and yet he was very spiritual. One day a revival came to town. His grandparents took him to the revival tent where many people heard Jesus call them personally for. The energy at a revival is “contagious”. After a few people get the ball rolling, the rest will join in. Sometimes it’s a genuine calling but sometimes it’s just so as not to be left out.

Back at the revival, people were getting the call, but that night nothing happened to the Robert. Rather than going along with the crowd, Robert did not join the throng of people who came forward for baptism because he did not feel Jesus call him inside.

This would be a matter-of-fact story except for one thing. On the way home, Robert, who genuinely believed that something authentic had happened to all others in the revival tent, came to the conclusion that Jesus had not called him because he was not worthy.

Robert didn’t check out his “thesis” with anyone any more than most children do and for the rest of his life, he felt rejected and shamed. Even Jesus did not want a poor boy.

There is a happy ending to this story. Robert grew up to be a well known and successful psychologist in La Mesa, California. He had a great professional and personal life, a very long and happy marriage. Robert was well to do and was respected in the community. He often spoke at the big Unity (metaphysical) Church in San Diego. I am not telling you a story he has not told publicly many times. Robert went through a healing process to understand that as a boy he had added 2 + 2 and gotten nonsense.

As children, we put the world together as best we can. As adults, it is our gift to ourself to return as an adult to some of our bigger decisions and connect the dots again properly if necessary.
I would like to give you another example that is a little more sophisticated. It has to do with the way being unconscious can keep us from seeing things plainly before our eyes.

In the 40s and 50s, it was considered glamorous or “manly”, to smoke. I know I could hardly wait! Louis Armstrong, King George VI of England, Betty Davis, Clark Gable, Babe Ruth and Humphrey Bogart all smoked heavily in public and in their films. They died in their mid-fifties of smoke related diseases such as lung cancer and emphysema. In a horrifying and ironic twist of fate, even Wayne McLaren, the celebrated “Marlborough Man”, died of lung cancer at the very early age of 51. Smoking was considered glamorous and I planned to start as soon as I could.
Like the boy Robert, I did not have eyes to see. I looked at Humphrey Bogart and was told how sophisticated he was rather than noticing what was plainly before my eyes. “This man is a walking cadaver.”

A new trend in consciousness raising about smoking began in 1968 when William Talman made a shocking public service announcement for the American Cancer Society. Talman had played Hamilton Burger on the tv series, Perry Mason. He was dying of lung cancer at 53, leaving behind a wife and 6 young children. According to Barron H. Lerner, a Columbia University professor [Globe Newspaper Company], Talman’s message won praise among viewers, many of whom vividly remembered it for decades and credited it for getting them to quite smoking.
Yul Brynner, who died of lung cancer in 1985, helped reverse the glamour image in the late 80s with a chilling PSA which began, “Now that I’m dead … please don’t smoke.”

If you’re wondering what this has to do with spiritual development and seeing things clearly, let me continue.

If you didn’t go through the process of consciousness raising with cigarette smoking, here’s an example from the 21st Century. The same thing is occurring with obesity. The same long, time consuming process has begun. This time you can be a part of it, waking up slowly to what is before your very eyes.

I visited Russia this summer and people in Russia are not overweight. I really noticed it when I got back home. I have a friend from India who moved here because he wanted to be in a country where “even the poor people are fat.”

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. Fast food chains are being sued to hold them accountable for selling food high in fat, salt, sugar, and cholesterol content, “despite studies showing a link between consuming such foods and obesity, diabetes, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, elevated cholesterol intake, related cancers, and other health problems” and despite a recent published finding by the Surgeon General that obesity costs Americans almost as much money per year as cigarette related illnesses. John F. Banzhaf III ( is the nationally-known professor and practitioner of public interest law who is bringing these legal actions to the public forum.

The Chicago Tribune reports that suits initiated by Banzhof’s students have already forced McDonald’s to apologize for “duping” people, and pay out over $12 million in damages. McDonald’s claimed their French fries were “vegetarian”. [They are fried in animal fat.]
According to ABCNEWS Internet Ventures, “a second law suit filed by a disgruntled customer in Florida, outraged when she learned that a so-called low-calorie and low-fat ice cream had at least three times the calories and fat she was led to believe, has likewise been granted class action status by a judge, and could involve one million customers.”

Banzhof comments, “We know from tobacco litigation that initial suits have real difficulties because the public has real problems accepting new ideas and new concepts. It took us many years to get us to the point of educating juries about tobacco, so now they are [learning about the fast food industry].”

In one of the finer uses of the evolutionary nature of law, Americans are being shown — until they can “see” for themselves — the connection between junk food and poor health. We are also being shown the correlation between weight gain and disastrous health consequences which we know intuitively. Obesity, watching television and eating junk food and go together like Whoppers and SuperSizeItPlease.

Connecting the dots can help us to correct misapprehensions from childhood and see the world around us with new eyes. It is these new eyes of seeing that are both the goal and the process of enlightenment.

Dervish at the Door - A Timely Message from Rumi

A dervish knocked at a houseto ask for a piece of dry bread,or moist, it didn't matter.

"This is not a bakery," said the owner.

"Might you have a bit of gristle then?"

"Does this look like a butchershop?"

"A little flour?"

"Do you hear a grinding stone?"

"Some water?"

"This is not a well."

Whatever the dervish asked for,the man made some tired jokeand refused to give him anything.
Finally the dervish ran in the house, lifted his robe, and squatted as though to take a shit.

"Hey, hey!"

"Quiet, you sad man. A deserted placeis a fine spot to relieve oneself, and since there's no living thing here,or means of living, it needs fertilizing."

The dervish began his own list of questions and answers.

"What kind of bird are you? Not a falcon, trained for the royal hand. Not a peacock, painted with everyone's eyes. Not a parrot, that talks for sugar cubes. Not a nightingale, that sings like someone in love. Not a hoopoe bringing messages to Solomon,or a stork that builds on a cliffside.

What exactly do you do?You are no known species.

You haggle and make jokesto keep what you own for yourself.

You have forgotten the One who doesn't care about ownership, who doesn't try to turn a profit from every human exchange."

-- From The Essential Rumi, Harper San Francisco, 1995, chapter 9 "On the Pickaxe"

The Astrologer, the King and the Fool

The Astrologer, the King and the Fool: When Will Astrologers Be Invited to the Peace Party?

A recent article raised the question, why are the presence and opinions of people like the Dalai Lama, Eckhart Tolle, Nelson Mandela and Deepok Chopra regularly included in important world conferences on peace and global community while Rob Hand, say, and Liz Greene go without invitations year after year. For the uninformed, these are two of the world’s greatest living astrologers. Rob Hand practices out of Reston, Virginia and can be visited at Liz Greene, also a Jungian analyst, is a founder of Astrodienst in Switzerland and can be visited at

Or for that matter why isn’t Jeanne Avery being asked to head up a committee to explore peaceful resolutions to the conflict in the Middle East or Deborah Houlding among those advising Tony Blair on national policy? Why isn’t Rebecca Trents speaking at the United Nations? Again, for the not-so-well informed, Jeanne Avery is an astrologer for the rich and famous who can be visited at Deborah Houlding is a world-class “classical” astrologer in the UK who can be visited at . Rebecca Brents an astrologer and editor of Enchanted Spirit, one of the most successful metaphysical ezines on the internet which you can visit at .

This question is worth contemplating. Why aren’t astrologers being included? I am not inclined to a powerless, exclusionary or conspiratorial interpretation as if these talented and capable people were sitting at home by the phone waiting for it to ring. On the contrary, I would rephrase the question and reverse it. Why don’t the world’s leading astrologers “get” themselves asked to high profile conferences on global matters? They could, so I guess the answer must be that they aren’t pursuing opportunities. Why, then?

I think this has something profound to do with the nature of astrology and astrologers, and perhaps with their tacit understanding that this is “not the way”. Before I explain what I mean by this, let me set the stage for you.

Astrology and its practitioners are ruled by the planet Uranus and the sign Aquarius. Aquarius is opposite the sign Leo, which among other things represents the ruler or the king. Aquarius also represents “everyman” or “the common man”, as in a brotherhood of equals and also represents a revolutionary force opposed to the king or more correctly, opposed to the mythical heroic image of the king. We might understand from this that astrologers find themselves or put themselves at opposite “ends” of the spectrum from the hierarchy. This polarity worked well through many centuries of history. For example, at some times in our heritage as human beings the astrologer was the natural opposing companion of the king, not unlike the Fool, the king’s other stalwart companion. The Fool is ruled by Uranus as well.

We see many fools in Shakespeare’s play, the most famous being the one in “King Lear”. To get a little Shakespearean on you, then does this mean that the astrologer is a Fool? Certainly not! Or, wait a minute, does it?

How are the Fool and the astrologer one and the same? The Fool told the king true things that those close to him sometimes wanted to keep him from knowing, out of fear of repercussions or because they were fawning for favors. Here’s an example from Barbara Tuchman’s book, “Distant Mirror: The Calamitous 14th Century”. It is the year 1340 and the French have just been soundly defeated in a naval battle at the port of Bruges. No one wants to tell the king. Back then, sometimes even the messenger of bad news got killed. “Jester” is another name for the Fool. Tuchman states, “No one dared tell the outcome of the battle to Philip VI until his jester was thrust forward and said, ‘Oh, the cowardly English, the cowardly English!’ and on being asked why, replied, ‘They did not jump overboard like our brave Frenchmen.’ The King evidently got the point. The fish drank so much French blood, it was said afterward, that if God had given them the power of speech they would have spoken in French.” [pg. 7, “Distant Mirrors”]

The purpose of the Fool is to — and the power of the Fool is derived from — standing permanently outside the circle of power so that he is immune both from punishment and from temptation or corruption. This way he is “allowed” to tell the truth. It creates a pure, idealistic Uranian environment. Uranus at its very best! The “real truth” about some important things seems to come from a very far away place and is often so simple as to sound like it came from a fool.

Now what about the astrologer? Benjamin Franklin once said, “Courteous Reader, Astrology is one of the most ancient Sciences, held in high esteem of old, by the Wise and the Great. Formerly, no Prince would make War or Peace, nor any General fight in Battle, in short, no important affair was undertaken without first consulting an Astrologer.”

The astrologer, who read the horoscope of the king knew that the fate of the king “was” the fate of the nation. They were one and the same. He also stood outside the power circle and was expected to tell the pure truth, though often it was not with impunity. Some astrologers who gave bad news were dispatched(!) Emperor Tiberius, for example, used to hurl his astrologers off the top of a cliff.

In what way is the “truth” of the astrologer pure, like that of the Fool? Information derived from an astrology chart isn’t “psychic” or “intuitive”. It isn’t a personal impression or a counseling skill. It is based on a set of rules and a bunch of numbers and angles. It is mathematical. William Tiller, Stanford professor of physics, is quoted on astrologer Dr. Glenn Perry’s website as saying, “Mathematics has been and will continue to be the quantitative language of science, but astrology will become the qualitative language of the human condition.” Dr. Perry has a doctorate in clinical psychology as well as being an astrologer. You can visit his website at

Thus we see that astrology is a “pure” or abstract experience like mathematics where the truth is being told sometimes from a great emotional distance and in terms of symbols. The heyday of court astrologers was probably from the 15th to 17th centuries in Europe. Tycho Brahe served the Danish court. Johannes Kepler served the House of Habsburg (Austria) and Galileo Galilei served the de Medici family in Italy. As you know, these men were also pursuing interests in alchemy/chemistry and in astronomy. The subjects were not separated into right and left brain as they are today.

Slightly later, the skilled English astrologer William Lilley advised both Oliver Cromwell and King Charles 1 during the British Civil War, as well as predicting the Great Fire of London in 1666.
In more recent times, President Reagan was suspected of consulting astrologers such as Sydney Omar, Jeanne Dixon and Joan Quigley, through his wife, Pat. When Dixon refused to predict that Reagan would be elected in an earlier campaign for the presidency, she was replaced. You can see that one of the reasons astrologers remain outside the establishment is to render greater service by detachment. They “oppose” the king, president and establishment in the sense that they are not under the direct power or authority of these entities and are expected to give a detached “outside” comment that can be really valuable because of its purity. Now, let’s look at the second reason.

Conferences, groups, referendums and other activities taking place today that address global issues are operating under Piscean Age protocols. (In the next paragraph, I will review the evolution of the “Ages” briefly.) At some level I think astrologers know these Piscean Age methods are antiquated and ineffective and at the same time they are not yet “called” to the fore as the priests and leaders of their own age, the Aquarian Age. As great as the Dalai Lama, Eckhart Tolle, Nelson Mandela and Deepok Chopra are, they are in some sense relics of the Piscean Age and its spiritual rather than mathematical approach to worldview and they represent waning or cadent powers. Aquarian values are succedent, on the upsurge, very soon to become angular, cardinal, dynamic and directive.

The “ages” such as the Age of Aquarius and the Age of Pisces are based on an astronomical phenomenon called the “precession of the equinoxes”. Because of this heavenly condition (!), the constellation in which the vernal equinox takes place changes roughly every 2,160 year. It is part of a 25,920 year cycle, sometimes called an “eon”. The signs move backward from the perspective of earth and so the Age of Pisces precedes the Age of Aquarius. At the moment we are in a transitional period. By most reckonings the Age of Aquarius will not “really” begin until around 2060 but we are seeing signs of it everywhere. For more information about this, please visit my website for an article entitled, “The Age of Aquarius”.

In the Aquarian Age, astrologers and physicists may become “king” and the mythical heroic concept of the king may become the complimentary or opposing force. The subjective, feeling-based spiritual values of the Piscean Age may be replaced by the detached objective mathematical principles of harmony inherent in a paradigm such as astrology or in the known physical and metaphysical laws of the universe.

Boy! Party, party, party. Our phones will be ringing off the hook then!

Martin Schulman, one of my favortie astrologers, is finally developing a web presence. Believe it, he's the REAL THING.

Hey! Does this guy ever show his face?

He has a nice, sane, intelligent and accurate article [unlike Mikey !! ] about the Saturn-Uranus opposition which continues like a helicopter blade through 2010 and how it can affect your job.

Here's the heads up. He writes,"Interestingly enough, Saturn rules what we put our time to. In Virgo, we are finding job openings increasing exponentially in the fields of health care, hygiene, organizational abilities, and the things in life that make chores easier, more functional and less time-consuming."

What may be most interesting about the timing of Bernard L. Madoff's arrest Friday is that members of his own family ratted him out. That's an entirely other new look at Pluto in Capricorn the patriarchy!

As you know Russia, China and Mongolia are our target countries to be watching as well as Alaska and Korea. The patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Chiurch has just died. This is like the Pope dying for Catholics.

In the Italian Mafia an older family member takes the hit (what's a little ail time?) while the rest enjoy the money that's been stashed away. The Mafia Godfather is the ultimate Pluto in Capricorn figure.

ElsaElsa stirs up some discussion.

Read my article The New World Order about Wall Street, the SEC and more.

The son turned the father in - Uranus opposite Saturn - the son castrates the father.

Find the chart of any celebrity, ASTROTHEME.

Quoting fom Astrotheme, "Charles Gradante, co-founder of hedge-fund research firm Hennessee Group, observed that Madoff "only had five down months since 1996", and commented on Madoff's investment performance: "You can't go 10 or 15 years with only three or four down months. It's just impossible."

Please note 1996 is about the time Pluto entered Sagittarius. The truth came out right after Pluto moved to Capricorn. Pluto deals with things that are buried for a long time but you can neve stop what's coming. With Pluto there is always a day of reckoning, payback time. Seeds grow in the dark but one day they break through a crack or fissure into the light.

Positions of Planets

Sun 8°40' Taurus

Mercury 26°25' Aries
Venus 29°37' Taurus [anaretic]
Mars 4°04' Gemini

Saturn 11°48' Aries
Uranus 13°24' Taurus
Neptune 18°37' Virgo
Pluto 27°55' Cancer

Node 27°56' Scorpio

Too much Taurus can be greed with a capital "G". We don't know what houses these planets are in but this is a selfish man, most planets being in the first 4 signs. Saturn in Aries: live by the sword, die by the sword.

North Node in Scorpio might be the "betrayal" of his family or rather his failure to consider motivated self interest in others or rather payback time. No doubt he ruled his family (his sons) with an iron hand and never saw it coming.

Look at your own life and see this is true. Sometime's it 's a long time comin' but it's comin'.

The Zen of Healing

These paragraphs are excerpted from Thomas Cleary's introduction to The Art of War, one of the oldest books in the world. The title really should be, The Art of Preventing War. The story begins ...

According to an old story, a lord of ancient China once asked his physician, a member of a family of healers, which of them was the most skilled in the art.

The physician whose reputation was such that his name became synonymous with medical science in China, replied, "My eldest brother sees the spirit of sickness and removes it before it takes shape, so his name does not get out of the house.

"My elder brother cures sickness when it is still extremely minute, so his name does not get out of the neighborhood.

"As for me, I puncture veins, prescribe potions, and massage skin, so from time to time my name gets out and is heard among the lords."

Intelliigent Life Forms - Ko Ko and William Shatner

This is a tribute to the fabulous KoKo but look at the expression of love, appreciation and awe on Wiliiam Shatner's face.

Everyone knows Shatner is an Aries. After all, the Commander of the Star Fleet? !! Going where no man has ever gone before ? !!! ?

Where wolud he find such depth?

Looking at his chart, only one place. South Node in 8th house.

INFP Power

Fred Rogers is the quintessential INFP. Please visit to learn more.

Let's Look at Some God Capricorn

To me Aeneas is the quintessential good Capricorn. Here he is carrying his father out of burning Troy. A good son. Later he founded the city of Rome.
Another Trojan prince, Hector, was a terrific Capricorn. His father, Priam, told him as he set out to die by Achilles' sword, "No man ever had a better son."
Some great Capricorn lines by Hector [Eri Bana] in the mvoie TROY:

"If I die, [do this and that] .... I'm telling you this because I want you to be ready."

"All of my life I have lived by a code and the code is simple: honor the gods, love your woman and defend your country. Troy is mother to us all. Fight for her!"

"It's all a game to you isn't it? You roam from town to town, bedding merchants' wives and temple maids and you think you know something about love. What about your father's love? You spat on him when you brought her [Helen] onto this ship! What about the love for your country? You'd let Troy burn for this woman? I won't let you start a war for her."

"You say you're willing to die for love but you know nothing about dying and you know nothing about love!"

To Menelaus, "The fight is over" ... and later ... "He's my brother!"

Respecting the hierarchy (your elders or those above you on the ladder of success) is being a good Capricorn. We will see these values emerging as Pluto moves through the sign.

Sweet lttle Capricorn, how can you be so cruel?
I think you know ... the stampede death at Wal Mart is the vey epitome of what we have to deal with as the shadow side of Pluto iin Capricorn

With most of my planets in the 9th and 11th houses I'm so uinmaterialsitc I did n't even know what a "Black Friday" Sale is like or why people would need to feel so rushed. My daughter explained \that there are limited items at cut prices.
