As an Adept
The temple always has black and white squares, not grey. This symbolizes the polarities such as good and evil, one you are intimately involved with .
In freemasonry the temple floor is always black and white. This is to symbolize the alternating of yin and yang energies and one of the Laws of the Universe: All things are always changing to their opposites.
Like the High Priestess you sit between the black and white pillars , Joachim and Boaz. You mediate for the collective.
This touches upon every single one of the 7 Hermetic Principles
THE SEVEN HERMETIC PRINCIPLES
I. THE PRINCIPLE OF MENTALISM - "THE ALL is MIND; The Universe is Mental."
II. THE PRINCIPLE OF CORRESPONDENCE - "As above, so below; as below, so above."
III. THE PRINCIPLE OF VIBRATION - "Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."
IV. THE PRINCIPLE OF POLARITY - "Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled."
V. THE PRINCIPLE OF RHYTHM - "Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates."
VI. THE PRINCIPLE OF CAUSE AND EFFECT - "Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law." [also see Emerson's Essay on Compensation, free eBook on my site]
VII. THE PRINCIPLE OF GENDER - "Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes "
If you work these laws to their utmost as an Adept, you alternate so fast between black and white, it seems like you are doing nothing, standing still. This card shows the Goddess in charge of keeping the planets in their orbit by just such eternal motion/vibration or equilibriating , a higher octave of the High Priestess, usually called Justice and card XI. Here from the Crowley deck. She stands absolutely motionless which is an illusion.
She is like mighty Oya of the Niger River. Because Oya dances, I am and you are. If this woman stopped her mediating the world would collapse into chaos. Think of yourself that way.
As Athena
A final image that comes to mind is the goddess Athena. She is the ultimate Libran, a father’s daughter, a smart strategist, a fearless warrior of just wars, hating war and wanting to get it over with quickly when necessary.
You know all this. What makes it so appropriate for you, however, is the Medusa or Gorgon’s head she always carries on her breastplate.
