Louis

Music critic Steve Leggett describes Louis Armstrong as "perhaps the most important American musician of the 20th century." [wiki]

Louis Armstrong shows near perfect use of Aries, Leo and Capricorn. My friend Niko and I have ongoing disussions as to the positive and negatve uses of these signs.

His Moon and Ascendant are in Aries. His Sun is in Leo. He has Jupitet and Saturn in Capriorn.

With his winning, youthful, honest and courageous personality, not to mention his incredible generosity and popularity, Louis Armstrong shows the best qualities of these three signs.

At his first Saturn Return, Armstrong started having trouble with his lips and fingers because of the uniqiue way he played. He was forced to branch out into singing and practically "invented" the art of jazz singing single handedly.

An example of his Leo loyalty is that he was given music lessons by a Jewish family while living in a probationary home as a kid. Ever after that he wore a Star of David to thank them.

Also at his first Saturn Return, when he was 28 he recorded "Ain't Misbehavin' ", his biggest selling record to date.

At the time of his second Saturn Return, [60+], the US State Department sent Louis Armstrong to tour Africa, Europe, and Asia as a Good Will Ambassador. An example of his Aries courage is his "public criticism of President Eisenhower, calling him 'two-faced' and 'gutless' because of his inaction during the conflict over school desegregation in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957.... As a protest, Armstrong canceled a planned tour of the Soviet Union on behalf of the State Department saying 'The way they're treating my people in the South, the government can go to hell' and that he could not represent his government abroad when it was in conflict with its own people." [astrotheme]

Armstrong was extremely generous, giving way almost as much as he made (Leo Moon) and supported Dr. Martin Luther King and other civil rights workers.

Wth Venus in Virgo he was a laxative enthusiast.

Barely into his second Return, at 63 "Armstrong knocked the Beatles off the top of the Billboard Top 100 chart with 'Hello, Dolly', which made him the oldest artist to have a #1 song" [astrotheme]

Spreading success over a lifetime is a good use of Jupiter and Saturn in Capricorn.

Shoutout to Leos

Advice given to a lovelorn Leo from a Leo friend...

"Why do you lower yourself? He didn't deserve your love and to waste time exploring him, the chart and the relationship is to dignify the pig. Truly i think this is a lesson every person with pronounced Leo needs to learn. God some of the people i poured my love out to were worse than straw men in retrospect. I was seeing something in them and trying to find something in them that one cannot find in trogoldytes .. stuff like character, honesty, self awareness, compassion, not to mention dignity, kiindness and the lion heart."

When Leo and Virgo Mated They Produced the Egyptian Sphinx

The Egyptian Sphinx

I have read voraciously in this field for over 25 years and have studied all sorts of things. I have a photographic memory and a high speed of reading considering that I understand it all, too. I mean I don’t skip around and hit the high points. I have no idea some of the things I’ve read.

I also learned from the “ground up”. I now feel there was a reason I sat at fairs and in bookstores for years when I was building my practice and read for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of real people, many of whom have stayed with me for over 20 years now! I was really present at those readings, listening with my whole self. As I listened, watched their lives develop, heard their thoughts and feelings, saw how these things reflected later in their choices, in the things they manifested, “outworked” in their lives, also how their energies worked with their charts, I made all sorts of discoveries. Also they were very honest with me and very open. You possibly can’t imagine the things I know about real people. It certainly isn’t things they tell the Gallup poll.

In this field as in any field where human lives are concerned, there is NOTHING like experience!

At one time, I stumbled across a font of information that then disappeared. It was like drinking from a mountain stream and then going back to find it has disappeared. It is lovely to reminisce about this for this is where I found the information about the Egyptian Sphinx.

There were a group of writers around the turn of the century who were just sublime. The person who wrote "The Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East", for example, Baird Spaulding, is like that. Also the person who wrote “Shangri-La”. They have a cerebral Neptunian vibration to me although at the time this book was written Neptune and Pluto were in Gemini (1894). Perhaps it felt that way to me, that they were speaking directly to me, because those planets are on my Uranus in the 7th house.

I am also connected with a group of disincarnate guides, very wise people, a group where I came from, that contact me every now and then. Much of my “information” comes from this source (inside myself from past lives) as well as from the healing angel Raphael. I have lived many lives, been many things, many times a healer.

There is some logical reason to do with the zodiac for the Sphinx image but I don’t remember. I just got instantly that it was true.

There is a LOGIC when those two energies are combined that is both regal and grounded. It is an ordering logic, as the esoterics would say, a foundational energy like the imaginary blue prints of the anonymous people who built the cathedrals in the Middle Ages.

The Greek Sphinx was an utterly nasty character, but the Egyptian Sphinx is different. I suppose, too, that the ES must compensate for the plodding nature of Egyptian society, which went on and on and on without changes for so long. There is a higher intelligence released and at work as the Nile continues it endless cycle of reliable flooding.

Not my favorite culture. It’s like intelligence has to escape and express somewhere, and it went into the Sphinxes. That is how I sometimes feel out in the world. Am I the only one with myeyes open? Don’t you feel that way? Makes me think of Walt Whitman.

The Greater Mystery. The eye in the pyramid on the dollar bills (and in Masonry) is the higher octave of this sphinx.

The Greek Sphinx is a nasty character, a version of the negative female such as Medusa or a harpy. She belongs with negative Scorpio/Gemini energy.

Evil Twins in Astrology

Sometimes I'm accused in my classes of being too positive about the signs. This is my effort to present the negative side of the signs in a humorous way.

This article comes from The Astrology Center of America, a site with terrific resources, especially dedicated to reprinting out-of-print astrology books. Dave Rudell says, " I clipped this from the New York Village Voice back in the late 1970's, perhaps in a February issue. On my clipping there was no title nor author given. As I later saw variations elsewhere, I have wondered if it all started with this piece in the Voice. Anyone know? Of the variations I've read, this remains the best. Read at your own risk."

I agree. This is the best version. After you have a good laugh, please visit The Astrology Center of America and learn more astrology.

Here are the Evil Twins. Do you have one, too?

AQUARIUS - Jan 20-Feb 18:
You have an inventive mind & are inclined to be progressive. You lie a great deal. On the other hand you are inclined to be careless & impractical causing you to make the same mistakes over & over again. People think you are stupid.

PISCES - Feb 19-Mar 20:
You have a vivid imagination & often think you are being followed by the CIA or FBI. You have minor influence over your associates & people resent you for your flaunting of your power. You lack confidence & are generally a coward. Pisces people do terrible things to small animals.

ARIES - Mar 21-Apr 19:
You are the pioneer type & hold most people in contempt. You are quick-tempered, impatient & scornful of advice. You are not very nice.

TAURUS - Apr 20-May 20:
You are practical & persistent. You have a dogged determination & work like hell. Most people think you are stubborn & bullheaded. You are a Communist.

GEMINI - May 21-June 20:
You are a quick & intelligent thinker. People like you because you are bisexual. However, you are inclined to expect too much for too little. This means you are cheap. Geminis are known for committing incest.

CANCER - June 21-July 22:
You are sympathetic & understanding to other people's problems. They think you are a sucker. You are always putting things off. That's why you'll never make anything of yourself. Most welfare recipients are Cancer people.

LEO - July 23-Aug 22:
You consider yourself a born leader. Others think you are pushy. Most Leo people are bullies. You are vain & dislike honest criticism. Your arrogance is disgusting. Leo people are known thieves.

VIRGO - Aug 23-Sep 22:
You are the logical type & hate disorder. This nit-picking is sickening to your friends. You are cold & unemotional & sometimes fall asleep while making love. Virgos make good bus drivers.

LIBRA - Sep 23-Oct 22:
You are the artistic type & have a difficult time with reality. If you are a man you are more than likely queer. Chances for employment & monetary gain are excellent. Most Libra women are good prostitutes. All Libras die of venereal disease.

SCORPIO - Oct 23-Nov 21:
You're shrewd in business & cannot be trusted. You shall achieve the pinnacle of success because of your total lack of ethics. Most Scorpio people are murdered.

SAGITTARIUS - Nov 22-Dec 21:
You are optimistic & enthusiastic. You have a reckless tendency to rely on luck since you lack talent. The majority of Sagittarians are drunks or dope fiends. People laugh at you a great deal.

CAPRICORN - Dec 22-Jan 19:
You are conservative & afraid of taking risks. You don't do much of anything & are lazy. There has never been a Capricorn of any importance. Capricorns should avoid standing still too long as they tend to take root & become trees.

8.29.2008 A reader commented, "I read about the evil twin zodiacs and thought it was great until I read capricorns. that's the only one that wasnt true. I know a few capricorns and theyre just nuts. I would say their greatest downside is being incrediably morbid minded and sarcastic."

Any comments?

Fire Signs - Aries, Leo and Sag

FIRE people and their quotes ...

"I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dryrot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time." -Jack London

"To have another language is to possess a second soul." -Charlemagne

"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." -Winston Churchill [the quintessential fireperson!]

"Kites rise highest against the wind - not with it." -Winston Churchill

"Never, never, never give up." -Winston Churchill

"We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give." -Winston Churchill

"After it, follow it, Follow The Gleam.: -Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Learning about Leo and Capricorn

[Edward I, "Longshanks" who used the Trebuchet against Wales and Scotland ... also familiar from "Braveheart"]

Excerpt from David Patrick Columbia's "New York Social Diary" today...

...The Royals are at the center of British news all the time. It’s an ongoing family drama and everybody’s up for grabs at one time or another except for the Queen, and of course her late Mother. Princess Michael is a far different story. Far different even from her husband’s press which is almost neutral. The Royals, when you meet them in a social situation are very polite although perhaps reserved. It’s an odd existence, when you think about it, no matter how grand it might seem to us outsiders. They live in a veritable goldfish bowl no matter how high the walls they might build to hide behind. It is the nature of the modern monarchy."

In astrology this ROLE is straight Leo laced with Capricorn. Always, always "on". It has nothing to do with modern times. The king and queen have always been figureheads and icons for the collective. They are not supposed to stand out as individuals but as personifications.

Interesting name, Leonardo diCaprio.

Leos are the Workaholics of the Zodiac!

Neith and Pat wrote this about me and my fellow Leos:

With the Sun and Venus in Leo, we decided to ask for your feedback on how you feel about Leos.

This is how you voted:

46.4% Lots of fire in my chart so I love them.

21.4% They irritate the heck out me, too loud and overbearing.

0.0% I have nothing in common with them so don’t know any.

32.1% Could they pay attention to someone other than themselves?

Well, it looks like the number of people who voted love Leos, a good sign for all you Leo types out there! Before you let all the adulation go to your head, note the second largest number of votes went to option number four. But don’t worry, we still love you.

There are a certain number of people, most likely Scorpio and Taurus folk, who find your typical Leo a teensy bit overbearing and loud. Now why would they think that? Could it be because they live in the apartment beneath your lordly realm and didn’t appreciate the wonderful party you threw that lasted into the wee hours? Who would have thought . . .

I guess those people with no Leos in their lives (the poor deprived souls) didn’t even bother to vote. Either that or there weren’t any, the more logical choice.

And just so you know this is all in fun . . . I voted for option number one!!

[end of qutoe]
Nancy's Note: I just have one urgent, burning question. Why does this myth of our party nature persist? Most Leos are the workaholics of the zodiac.

Don't believe me? Check it out.

My theory has long been that it's probably because so many have Mercury, Venus and/or Mars in Virgo [these personal planets can't get more than 45 degrees from the Sun] and their great big warm Leo Suns progress through Virgo for thirty years of their lives. I am thinking of my father, my twin, my best friend, my daughter and myself to name just five of the hardest working people I have ever known.
