Whilst H makes my birthday cake -- I've requested white cake with chocolate frosting - I'm kicking back to enjoy a fantastic pbs show on medieval siege warfare and the trebuchet, Edward Longshank's (1200s) "war wolf". The trebuchet ruled for about 200 years before being replaced by the precursor of the cannon.

Medieval wars were won by tricking one's way into the castle or by siege and ultimate starvation. Jousting of knights had little to do with the process, lovely though they are!
And here's the start of my birthday cake. I am sooo much looking forward to it.
